MEKA AT CRUFTS 2009
Meka the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.
I had admired this little breed for a considerable time, so decided to start looking for one. As it turned out fellow golden retriever exhibitors, Martin and Carol Widdowson have a pretty little bitch Saskia who they have done well with in the ring and were going to mate, so I booked one, and that’s when we had Meka. She has been an absolute pleasure, although hard work at times, through her typical Nova Scotia temperament of exuberance, over activeness, agility, (jumping on to tables, freezers, into cars and generally places where she shouldn’t be), and then there is the “scream” which thank goodness we don’t hear very often, although most of the time she is fully controllable and extremely obedient.
Meka excelled in the show ring qualifying at her first championship show for Crufts 2008 and qualifying and attending Crufts 2009/10, although unplaced in a large post graduate class. We have enjoyed Meka both in and out of the ring and hope to have many more years of fun with her. She has produced us some beautiful puppies, two of which we have retained. Palton Pandora (2011) and Palton Spinning Jenny (2014).
